We may all long for warmer days and less time huddled behind the fire, but this wee cold spell has given new opportunities to venture onto land where few men have trod before. Places where once I would have disappeared up to my knees in water and mud are now sturdy platforms and walkways enabling me to add some new compositions to some old haunts.
Of course this does present a few hurdles to your over enthusiastic photographer. Standing on ice with camera in hand isn't for the faint hearted, but it has its rewards. With all those cold frosty mornings comes a clean sharp light you only experience this time of year, as well as a few bruises and scrapes from one slip too many.
Loch Shiel has spent much of this winter frozen around its banks with the sun barely rising above Beinn Resipol to melt the snow. But with the cold comes new discovery's that are worth leaving the wood burning fire for.... well sometimes.
